California Cool!!

Bitter sweet feelings right now posting one of my last maternity looks on the blog.  It’s so crazy for me to look at these photos with baby girl in my belly as she is currently in my arms gazing into my eyes.  It’s been 3 wonderful and crazy weeks.  I’m sorry I’ve been a little MIA on the blog as I’m trying to embrace all the time I have with my baby girl while she is still this tiny little thing.  There are moments I want to pull my hair out, and then there are others I want to bottle up and cherish forever.  Motherhood is such an amazing experience and I’m trying to soak up every second I have.  Thankfully I still had some pregnancy photos to post, since most days I’m wearing nursing tanks and leggings.  I try to get out of the house for a walk or running errands, but with Carlota feeding what seems to be every 30 minutes I need to be dressed appropriately.

I think this is one of my favorite maternity looks.  All pieces are non-maternity and were found in the back of my closet.  I wore a classic little black dress but made it daytime appropriate by adding this Zara shirt.  Accessorizing with oversized shades, a hat, and ankle boots make this look perfect for a stroll around the streets of Silverlake.

All about the accessories

You wouldn’t think I was a California girl with all the black I wear.  I can’t get enough of a sleek all black look.  To add a little glam, I paired my outfit with bright red lips and intricate accessories.

I will gladly invest in classic items, but have a hard time spending a lot money on trendy or statement pieces.  This is why when I found both my Bauble Bar earrings and Zara clutch I knew they were must haves.  Both are very affordable but look pretty pricey. (At least I like to think so!!)

I love all the bead work on this clutch.  It gives me an Alexander McQueen, or Judith Leiber vibe without the price tag that accompanies their purses.

I can’t get enough of the sweater dress!! Pregnant or not, a sweater dress is so simple yet super chic.  While I’m outgrowing the majority of my clothes, I turn to pieces such as this one.   Knitwear stretches perfectly to fit over my changing figure.  This dress can be worn all throughout my pregnancy and once I go back to my pre-pregnancy shape.  I have been trying to purchase items that I will be able to use post-pregnancy as well.

Home for the Holidays!!

After spending just a few days in Barcelona my husband and I went home to Toronto to celebrate the holidays.  We were looking forward to a winter wonderland and to our surprise the weather was quite mild and no snow.  Living in sunny LA this was kind of disappointing.  We made the best of it and took a road trip to Niagara Falls.  It had been years since I visited the falls and I forgot how breathtaking they really are.  My photos don’t do them justice.

Located on the Niagara River and draining Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet. One of the 3 falls (Horseshoe falls) is the most powerful waterfall in North America.  It’s such a beautiful sight.

After visiting the falls we went straight to Niagara on the Lake for lunch.  Such a beautiful little town with great boutiques.  It’s definitely a must visit if you are there.

Denim daze

I have always been a pants and shirt kinda gal.  Even as a little girl I never liked to wear skirts and dresses.  My mom likes to remind me of this when I wear them occasionally now!!

With my pregnancy I have started to take more interest in dresses and you will see more of them in future blog posts.  I love the way they can camouflage or accentuate your curves depending on the style desired.  There is a level of comfort and freedom with a dress that makes it perfect to wear during pregnancy.

I love this Gap denim dress.  I liked it so much that I bought it in two different colors and patterns.  You can see how I styled the other dress here.  I have seen denim and plaid button down dresses in multiple stores this season and I think they are a great casual piece for anyone especially pregnant women.

I paired it with brown boots and a blanket scarf.  I have had these boots for 6 years and I love their worn and vintage feel.

Paradise Cove

IMG_5381Last week my parents came to visit me in Los Angeles.  It’s always so nice to spend time with family even if its only for a short period.  When I first moved to California my father and I stumbled upon Paradise Cove in Malibu.  We were driving up the Pacific Coast Hwy to explore Malibu and enjoy the scenic drive.  We noticed the sign for the cafe right off the Hwy and decided to try it out.  Little did we know we were about to stumble upon a gem.  The Beach Cafe is the only restaurant in Malibu right on the sand with its own private beach & cove.

During the summertime the beach and Cafe are packed with people, and its almost impossible to get a table.  This past weekend was off season so we were fortunate to get a table right away and enjoy the beautiful view.

Even though we are well into Fall, the weather in Los Angeles has not been reflecting this.  This past weekend it was in the high 80’s, so the beach was the perfect place to go.  Since we were there for the sunset I brought some layers as California nights are always cool.

As soon as I saw this Rag & Bone sweater on the runway last year, I knew I had to have it.  Its perfection.  It has a school girl/preppy vibe with a sexy low cut V neck.  You can dress it up or down and wear it for almost every occasion.

For this post I decided to play up the school girl look and go with my leather shorts and over the knee boots.  I love how sexy and fashionable these boots are.  I had been on the hunt for the perfect over the knee boot, for about a year and finally took the plunge with these.  I was debating between another pair that had a thinner heel and pointed toe.  I opted for the Stuart Weiztman’s since I felt that the thicker heel and rounded toe would make the boots a little more causal.  When I splurge on a pair of shoes I want to be able to wear them as much as I can.   I figured the more casual pair would be perfect for my everyday style and would be more versatile for night and day looks.

The little gray dress

Dress:  Banana Republic (Also in Back)  Earrings:  Bauble Bar old (Similar here and here)  Heels:  Zara (also love them in black)

I am almost 16 weeks pregnant and its starting to get harder to fit into my clothes.  I am learning to find what flatters my ever changing figure and enlarging belly.  At this stage I don’t have an obvious baby bump but my body is developing and growing.  This dress is one of the items I have recently picked up from Banana Republic.  As I had mentioned in my previous blog post…I am loving the new BR and am so excited they have updated their style.  (You can read more about it here, and see some of my favorite items).

Every girl has a little black dress in her wardrobe as a staple and it goes with everything.  If you are going out and don’t know what to wear you can always fall back on that LBD (little black dress).  On the hunt for a cute maternity friendly dress, I opted for the gray option.  With fall in the air I felt like the gray was a perfect fit.  The ruching on the dress is strategically placed to flatter every figure (even my growing bump.)  The dress is very simple and can be dressed up or down depending when you want to wear it.  During the day, just add a scarf, booties and simple accessories and you are ready to go.  For an evening out  I paired it with statement earrings and these laser cut booties for an edgier look.

As soon as I laid eyes on these heeled open toed booties I knew I had to have them.  I am such a fan of burgundy this season.  I think the color is so rich and beautiful.  I think a bold shoe can add to a simple outfit just as much as a statement piece of jewelry.  I am more of a minimalist when it comes to jewelry so I try to find other accessories to add something special to my outfits.  When I feel like I need to enhance my look, I add  a scarf, jacket or use my shoes to do the trick.

Still Summer in Los Angeles

It’s the middle of September and it feels like we are in full blown summer here in LA.  I am such a fan of fall fashion and am so excited to start wearing my layers.  Unfortunately this heat wave is just not conducive to that.  I decided to dress for the weather and stuck with summer bright colors for todays post.

I think its important to wear colors that match your skin tone and your comfort level.  As you will soon see I seem to wear a lot of neutral colors: black, white and grays are my top 3.  I have stepped out of my comfort zone today for my colorful color blocking ensemble.  I’m so pale and have blue/green eyes so I feel that blue hues and pink/red hues match my complexion best.  Today I am wearing cobalt blue and light pink, I think the blue adds such a pop while the pink has a more subtle roll.
